The Mountain Explorer Combo is a 6-8 hour, full-day adventure (€70/person) that combines a 4x4 off-road climb into the Dhëmbel-Nemërçka mountains above Përmet, Albania, with a guided alpine ridge hike to panoramic summit viewpoints over the Vjosa Valley. A picnic lunch is served at the summit. Moderate difficulty, no technical experience required — just reasonable fitness for 3-4 hours of hiking, since the 4x4 transfer skips the longest approach. The route offers sweeping views toward the City Stone and the wider Vjosa Wild River National Park landscape.
Combine the thrill of off-road driving with the serenity of alpine hiking. We use 4x4 vehicles to bypass the grueling lower trails and drop you directly into the high-altitude wilderness.
From the drop-off point, embark on a spectacular guided hike along mountain ridges. This combo allows you to see the deepest parts of the Albanian Alps in a single day.
Power up the mountain trails in our off-road vehicles.
Leave the cars and trek along panoramic ridges.
Lunch at the peak with stunning valley views.
Hike back to the 4x4s for the rugged ride home.
The Mountain Explorer Combo departs from our base camp in Përmet town center, where you'll load into the off-road 4x4 vehicles before climbing steep mountain tracks into the Dhëmbel-Nemërçka range. Përmet sits on the SH75 highway within the Vjosa Wild River National Park, making it an ideal base for reaching both the river valley and the high mountains — including the dramatic City Stone rock formation, visible from several points along the route. The 4x4s drop the group at the trailhead, skipping the longest and least scenic part of the approach, before the guided hike begins. No personal vehicle is needed; round-trip transport is included.
The Mountain Explorer Combo runs primarily from April through October, when the Dhëmbel-Nemërçka mountain tracks and ridge trails are dry and clear of snow. Late spring (May-June) brings green pastures and wildflowers to the high meadows, while summer (July-August) offers the clearest long-range views over the Vjosa Valley and toward landmarks like Leusa Church. Early autumn brings cooler hiking temperatures and golden colors in the valley below. We monitor trail conditions closely and may adjust the route or pause departures after heavy rain or early snowfall, when both the 4x4 tracks and the ridge trails become unsafe.
Beyond hiking shoes, a windbreaker, a backpack, and sun protection, pack layers you can adjust throughout the day — mornings in the 4x4 can feel cool, while the midday hike in direct sun can be warm. Bring at least 1.5 liters of water per person, since there are no refill points on the ridge, plus snacks for energy during the 3-4 hour trekking section. A camera or phone is essential for the summit panoramas, and trekking poles are welcome if you have them, though not required. Since a picnic lunch is included at the summit, no food needs to be packed beyond personal snacks.
Back in Përmet, the City Stone is a legendary rock formation overlooking the town and the Vjosa Valley — several of the combo's mountain viewpoints offer a different perspective on this same landmark. The historic Leusa Church, a Byzantine-era church with panoramic views, sits on a hillside above town and pairs naturally with the combo's mountain theme. For a different kind of adventure, the Sopoti Waterfall is a hidden cascade tucked into the mountains above Përmet, reachable via a separate hike. All three sites make great additions to your Përmet itinerary.
About 3-4 hours of moderate walking.
The 4x4 ride is bumpy, but completely safe.
We pace the hike to suit the group.
On clear days you'll see panoramic views across the Dhëmbel-Nemërçka range and the Vjosa Valley, with the Albanian Alps stretching toward the horizon.
No technical experience is required — just a reasonable fitness level for 3-4 hours of uphill and downhill walking. The 4x4 transfer skips the longest, least scenic part of the approach.

Yes — several of the combo's mountain viewpoints offer striking views toward the City Stone and the Vjosa Valley. Both the City Stone and Leusa Church are easily visited separately from Përmet, either before or after your Mountain Explorer day.
