Mountain Hiking trips begin at our base camp in Përmet town center, where guides do a gear check and safety briefing before a short 4x4 transfer to the trailhead, skipping the asphalt roads to maximize time on the trail. Përmet sits on the SH75 highway within the Vjosa Wild River National Park, close to the historic Leusa Church, which sits on a hillside trail not far from some of our hiking routes. Round-trip transport between Përmet and the trailhead is included, so no personal vehicle is required.
The Trebeshinë-Dhëmbel-Nemërçkë range is hikeable from May through October, when snow has cleared from the higher trails and alpine meadows are in bloom. Late spring (May-June) brings wildflowers and wild mountain tea, while summer (July-August) offers the longest days and clearest valley views, with cooler temperatures at altitude than in Përmet below. September and October bring crisp air and golden colors across the Vjosa Valley. We avoid scheduling hikes in winter and early spring, when snow and ice make the higher shepherd trails unsafe.
Beyond sturdy hiking shoes, a sun hat, and a windbreaker, bring plenty of water and sunscreen, since much of the trail is exposed above the treeline. Layered clothing is essential — mountain weather can shift quickly from warm sunshine to cool wind at altitude. A camera or phone is worthwhile for the panoramic views over the Vjosa Valley, and walking poles are provided if you don't have your own. If your itinerary brings you near the Leusa Church, comfortable shoes will also serve you well for the short walk up to its hillside terrace.
The historic Leusa Church, a Byzantine-era church with sweeping panoramic views, sits on a hillside above Përmet and makes a natural pairing with a day of mountain hiking. The Sopoti Waterfall, a hidden cascade tucked into the mountains above town, offers another rewarding short hike for nature lovers. Back in Përmet, the City Stone is a legendary rock formation overlooking the town and the Vjosa Valley — a great low-effort viewpoint to compare against the high-altitude vistas from the trail.
Just comfortable walking uphill for a few hours. The pace is always adapted to the group's comfort level.
We reschedule in case of severe storms. Safety in the high mountains is our absolute priority.
Animals generally avoid humans. Our guides are deeply familiar with the terrain and trained in wilderness safety protocols.
